Overal objective: Students will develop awareness of “English Around the World” and their experience
Of learning English.
Language Objective:  Students will be able to present  the  attitude to the  English language through reading, summarizing and preparing oral presentation.
Civic Education Objective: By the end of the lesson the students will realize the importance of knowing English language for their future.
Class context and needs: -Secondary students -11th grade.
Materials: Handouts, board, laptop, papers.
Warm up: Students look at the title and predict the topic of the lesson. ( English is…) (7 minutes)
Teacher asks the students to write as  many endings as possible in order to create a poem. Teacher divides the class into 4 groups, delivers papers, students write the endings and  one of them from each group represents the” poem,” reads aloud and the teacher sticks papers on the wall.
e.g. English is necessary
I can make friends,
I will travel a lot,
Around the world. 
Activity 1: Teacher asks st-s to listen to the text “English –the world language” twice . a) the whole class matches two halves  to make a sentence.  b)complete the sentences according to the text. Use
One word for each sentence.(in pairs) (teacher delivers handouts).(Video 1) (6 minutes)

B.      Complete the sentences according to the text. Use ONE word for each word.

Activity 2: The aim of this activity is to introduce some foreigners who learn English for different reasons.
Teacher delivers handouts, st-s  are asked to find out from the text who they are, how they feel about it. St-s give brief information about those people and finally they find out what  they have in common. (7 minutes)
Activity 3: 11th graders represent their research which they have done in their school. The st-s  (video 2) will listen to the interviews with different students who talk about their experience of learning the English language. (5 minutes)
Activity 4: After the interview the teacher asks students what they think about the English language. They talk about their own “ English Language Biography”.First the teacher tells about her own experience of learning the English language. And then students tell the class how they learn, what is easy or difficult for them, what they do in order  to improve their knowledge, etc. (7 minutes)
Activity 5: As students have already spoken about the English language generally, they also speak about the importance of the English language. Teacher shows st-s the handout with reasons for studying English and asks them to number them in order of importance for them. They compare their answers  with the partner, then tell the class. (5 minutes)

Activity 6:  St-s look at the advert for a London school  that organizes summer courses for students of English . Then they answer the  questions and talk about their future plans together with the English language. (5 minutes)

Closure: Write your own language biography, Organize your information into 4-5 clear paragraphs. (3 minutes)
